Presiding: Lisa Thompson, Univ. at Albany, State Univ. of New York Speakers: Herman Beavers, Univ. of Pennsylvania; Diana Rebekkah Paulin, Trinity Coll., CT; Sonnet Retman, Univ. of Washington, Seattle; Valerie Smith, Princeton Univ.; Lisa Thompson; Lisa Woolfork, Univ. of Virginia This roundtable will examine various ways African American novelists, poets, filmmakers, playwrights, and other artists engage with and evoke black cultural trauma and memory in their work. The six participants on this roundtable will consider how representations of black pain, horror, terror, suffering, violence, and struggle are memorialized, performed, evoked, and fetishized.
