Session Description:
This roundtable will bring together scholars of eighteenth-century British literature and scholars of transatlantic slavery to consider the arguments made by Simon Gikandi in Slavery and the Culture of Taste. The book argues that the violence and ugliness of slavery were integral to the formation of theories of taste, aesthetics, and beauty.
