This roundtable examines German and Romanian perspectives on Herta Müller’s contested German and Romanian literary belonging(s) that investigate the mutually generative relation between narrative and identity. Presentations will focus on Müller’s aesthetic explorations of totalitarianism, oppression, fear, alienation, and issues pertaining to cultural and personal identity in her work. The discussions aim to compare and contrast Müller’s narrative and poetic strategies that inform her aesthetics of resistance.
