Topics addressed by the presenters include the appropriations of Maravall by scholars working within new historicist and Marxist paradigms, the evolution of Maravall’s propaganda model in relation to the tradition of performing Golden Age theater in Franco’s Spain, the representation of criminality on the early modern Spanish stage, the socioeconomic context of the development of burlesque entremés, and the articulation of selfhood in relation to pressures of social conformity in the comedia.
