695. Beyond “Hispanism”: New Paradigms for Iberian Studies
8:30–9:45 a.m., 306B, LA Convention Center
A special session
Presiding: Pedro S. Pereira, Ohio State Univ., Columbus Speakers: Sebastiaan Faber, Oberlin Coll.; Rebecca Haidt, Ohio State Univ., Columbus; Cristina Martínez-Carazo, Univ. of California, Davis; Robert Patrick Newcomb, Univ. of California, Davis; Mario Santana, Univ. of Chicago Scholars from different fields in Hispanic and Lusophone studies rethink the emerging category of Iberian studies beyond the limits imposed by constrictive conceptualities originated in the two national literatures of the Iberian peninsula, such as Hispanism or Lusophony. The session is a preliminary step in a more ambitious three-stage project that ideally will include an international conference and a publication.
