7. German in the Life of the University: A View from the Trenches
12:00 noon–1:15 p.m., 405, LA Convention Center
A special session
Presiding: Katherine Arens, Univ. of Texas, Austin Speakers: Helga G. Braunbeck, North Carolina State Univ.; Douglas Dechow, Chapman Univ.; Karen Gallagher, Chapman Univ.; Nels Jeff Rogers, Univ. of Kentucky; Sebastian Wogenstein, Univ. of Connecticut, Storrs All five speakers ask questions about the nature of the German department and its institutional constellation in ways that have not been discussed in the more traditional literature on curricular innovations. They specifically bring up questions about the feasibility of the 2007 MLA report’s recommendations. This program should be of significant interest to any small language program, not just German, since it is focused practically, with examples of the kinds of sustainable innovation that have been implemented around the country.
