This panel focuses on the role of women as public voices and political or cultural leaders, offering a much needed intersection of scholarship pertinent to the specific roles women play in communist and postcommunist societies in transition. The panel offers an overview that examines women and public spheres of societies in transition from communism, focusing mainly on southeastern Europe.
