Session Description:
Bakhtin’s critique of poetry as monologic has been largely rejected by commentators as misguided. Our panel will reconsider this consensus by examining the philosophical dimensions of Bakhtin's theory of poetry. How this theory can enhance a teacher's pedagogy will also be discussed. Panelists will illustrate their claims with readings of poems by Milton, Uri Greenberg, and Walt Whitman.
Subjects:

General Literature – Poetry
