Speakers: Elizabeth Alsop, Graduate Center, City Univ. of New York; Geoffrey Green, San Francisco State Univ.; Marcia Green, Humanities Education and Research Assn.; Gerard Anthony McGowan, US Military Acad.; Richard Middleton-Kaplan, William Rainey Harper Coll., IL This session examines adaptations of Melville’s Billy Budd. Since 2011 is the fiftieth anniversary of Britten’s opera, several speakers will discuss how he adapted the novella for the operatic stage. Other speakers will discuss radio and film adaptations.
