Session Description: Dickinson, Whitman, and Melville wrote war poetry that recent critical readings have scrutinized. This roundtable’s goal is to investigate—as interactively as possible—the growing interest in parsing these poets’ aesthetic, political, and formal responses. Through a variety of critical viewpoints, we invite the audience to participate in thinking through how critical approaches to Civil War poetry have evolved and will continue to offer new insights.
