Travel Arrangements

Travel arrangements may be made through Association Travel Concepts (ATC), the official travel coordinator for the MLA Annual Convention, through the MLA Web site, or by phone directly with American Airlines, Continental Airlines, or United Airlines.

Airline Discounts
  • Up to 15% off applicable classes of service on Continental for tickets purchased more than 30 days before the MLA Annual Convention. Restrictions apply.
  • 5% off the available fare in a number of applicable classes of service for tickets on American Airlines purchased before the MLA Annual Convention.
  • ATC will also search for the lowest available fare on any airline.
  • The above discounts are valid for travel from 24 December 2008 to 2 January 2009. Some other restrictions may apply.
ATC will send electronic ticket receipts and itineraries for your airline tickets to your e-mail address if you book through the Web site or to your e-mail address or by regular mail if you book over the phone. There is a service fee of $29 per airline ticket issued for telephone reservations and a $10 per airline ticket issued for reservations made through the MLA Web site (where housing reservations can also be made). ATC can be reached at 800 458-9383 Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Eastern time. Reservations for air travel only can be made on the MLA Web site at any time.

Although convention participants do not receive a discount on United Airlines, the MLA will receive credit toward free tickets for committee meetings if you use code 510CK when you make reservations on United.

Transportation to and in San Francisco

MLA convention hotels are located in downtown San Francisco.

By plane: San Francisco is served by San Francisco International Airport (www.flysfo.com) and Oakland International Airport (www.oaklandairport.com).

San Francisco International Airport (SFO): Cab fares from SFO to the various hotels range from $30 to $44. Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), the train between SFO and downtown, costs $5.15. For more information, visit www.bart.gov. Super Shuttle provides van service between SFO and all downtown hotels. Tickets cost $10 to $15 one-way. Oakland: Taxi service from Oakland International Airport to downtown San Francisco costs approximately $55. BART, the train between the airport and downtown San Francisco, takes approximately thirty minutes and costs $5.30. For more information, visit www.bart.gov. Travel Assistance for the Annual Convention

Assistance for Graduate Students
Funds are available to cover up to 200 awards of $300 for advanced graduate students.

Assistance for Non-Tenure-Track Faculty Members and for Unemployed Members
Funds are available to cover up to 150 awards of $300 for contingent non-tenure-track faculty members or unemployed members.

Assistance for Regular and Life Members Residing outside the United States and Canada
Funds are available to cover up to 150 awards of $300 for regular and life members residing outside the United States and Canada.
