Division Executive CommitteesMLA divisions encompass the primary scholarly and professional concerns of the association, with each of the eighty-six divisions representing a major area of membership interest. Divisions promote scholarly and professional activities within their areas of concern. MLA members have the option of joining up to four divisions. (If you are an MLA member and wish to review or update your division affiliations, please click here.)Each division is governed by an elected executive committee whose five members serve terms of five convention years. A convention year begins after the close of one convention and continues through the close of the next; it is named for the convention that concludes the year. Listed here are the division executive committees for the 2009 convention year. The dates after the names of executive committee members designate the final convention years of their terms. Unless otherwise noted, the member whose final convention year is 2011 serves as chair for 2009, the member whose final convention year is 2012 serves as secretary for 2009 and as chair for 2011, and the member whose final convention year is 2013 serves as secretary for 2011 and as chair for 2012.
