New Office of Scholarly Communication
The Executive Council has approved the creation of the office of scholarly communication. This new office will be responsible for a range of activities intended to promote scholarship among our members and within the larger academic community and will incorporate and expand the work of the book publications unit. Kathleen Fitzpatrick will become director of scholarly communication in July. She is currently professor of media studies at Pomona College, and she is the cofounder of the digital scholarly network MediaCommons. Her publications include The Anxiety of Obsolescence: The American Novel in the Age of Television, published in 2006 by Vanderbilt University Press, and Planned Obsolescence: Publishing, Technology, and the Future of the Academy, forthcoming from New York University Press in fall 2011.
