Council Advocates Language Requirements for Doctoral Programs in English

The MLA Executive Council has approved a statement urging doctoral programs in English to adopt language requirements and to offer support for those students who study languages beyond the requirement. More than a tool for translation, knowledge of more than one language promotes a broader “cultural literacy essential to teaching in the global university of the future.”
