UPDATED 23 November 2010
As part of the MLA's continuing response to the elimination of advanced study in Italian, French, Russian, and classics at the University at Albany, State University of New York, Executive Director Rosemary G. Feal has protested the cuts in the Chronicle of Higher Education and the Huffington Post.
In a letter to the New York State Education Department, the association has urged Deputy Commissioner Joseph Frey to reexamine the strategic plans of the state’s universities and make a commitment to preparing students for the global environment they will face after graduation. The Association of Departments of Foreign Languages and the Association of Departments of English have also protested the cuts in letters to SUNY Albany President George M. Philip.
