Scholarly Communication in the News
New models of scholarly communication were the focus of the Scholarly Communication Institute meeting in Charlottesville, Virginia. The meeting, which brought together scholars, librarians, administrators, and publishers, explored the changing shape of scholarly publishing and how tenure committees, libraries, presses, and others might respond to the new paradigms. Kathleen Woodward, a member of the MLA Executive Council, and Kathleen Fitzpatrick, the MLA’s director of scholarly communication, participated in the meeting. Fitzpatrick called for reimagining the traditional dissertation and looked forward to creating a dynamic online community for MLA members.
