Phyllis Franklin Award Given to Terry Gross
The MLA will present the Phyllis Franklin Award for Public Advocacy of the Humanities to Terry Gross, the host and executive producer of National Public Radio’s Fresh Air. The award, which commemorates the work of the MLA’s former executive director Phyllis Franklin, is given every three years and will be presented to Gross at a ceremony in New York on 29 October. “For over twenty years Terry Gross has engaged the public in a conversation with the humanities,” says Rosemary G. Feal, current MLA executive director. “She has consistently spotlighted challenging new work along with established writers and, in the process, has become one of the most popular media figures in America and a highly effective advocate for the humanities.”
