2012 Presidential Address Online

An audio recording and a transcript of Russell A. Berman’s 2012 Presidential Address, delivered at the MLA Annual Convention in Seattle, are now available on the MLA Web site. In “Teaching as Vocation” Berman points to teaching as what unites members and calls on them to act in defense of education. He urges the association to continue to pursue new models of practice: to work with language departments to strengthen their positions within institutions, to join coalitions in taking action on government policies, and to lead the movement toward transforming doctoral programs.
