The six search functions available in the MLA Language Map Data Center are numbered on this tutorial page but not in the actual Data Center. Data in functions 1 and 2 are for 2000 and 2005; data in functions 3 through 6 are for 2000 only. The search functions provide data in the following forms: (1) tables and pie charts, by year, listing numbers of speakers in the United States or by state, by region, or by division; (2) a table for each language, by year, ranking the states in which it is spoken; (3) tables listing numbers of speakers by county; (4) tables listing numbers of speakers by county subdivision; (5) tables listing numbers of speakers by city or town; (6) tables listing numbers of speakers by zip code.
