Session Description:

Our roundtable addresses the American novel’s volatile beginnings, nineteenth-century print culture, and nation building. We will engage with a profoundly vulnerable period—where national character was forged in contrast to the “other” and where the age of reprinting raised questions about fostering a resilient nation.
